Device Deployment Day Instructions Thursday, August 15, 2019
We will start delivering devices to advisement classrooms at 7:45 am on Thursday, August 15. Advisement teachers will need to count and sign-off for the devices they received. Once you receive your devices, do not leave them unattended. If you need to leave your classroom, please lock your door. Advisement will start at 9:58 and will last for 90 minutes. There is a PowerPoint file named Cambridge Surface Setup that will step you through the deployment process. Please look through it prior to advisement on Thursday and let me know if you have any questions.
Charger/Stylus The charger blocks and stylus pens are nicely packaged in a bag and you will receive the same number as devices. Each student who has a labeled device (indicating they have a signed agreement & all fines are cleared) should also receive a bag with their stylus and charger.
Most likely not all students will have a device with their name on it. If they do not, their parents may have opted out, missed the agreement deadline or the student may have outstanding fees. Please reassure the student that they can still get a device, just not right now. The student can stop by the Student Center after advisement.
What IF The setup process for the Surfaces is going to be just that…a PROCESS. It is very likely that several devices in each advisement class are going to have issues. Some of them will be simple and just require a restart and some PATIENCE! But other issues will require additional help. We want to help you successfully get the students setup on their tablets.
There will be a Troubleshooting Guide in your packet that you receive Thursday. There are some quick and easy things you can try for specific issues listed. If those suggestions don’t work or you have a different issue, there is a Problem Ticket form for the student to complete and for you to give the form & device to a Hallway Helper to take to the Tech Table. All that will be provided to you on Thursday when your devices are delivered. Please have students Restart the Surface according to the instructions in the PowerPoint before sending the device to the Tech Table.
If it’s a quick fix, the student will bring their Surface back to your classroom. If it takes longer, we may have to return it to the student later in the day. We want the students to be present in the advisement room to hear the information.
Teachers Without Advisement Be available in the hallways supporting the Advisement teachers if I have not assigned you a specific duty.
Teacher Sign-off You will be required to count the number of devices you receive and sign the delivery sheet when your devices are delivered. We plan to have deliveries starting at 7:45!
Student Sign-off When you are ready to distribute your devices (as indicated by the PPT), there will be a Student Sign-off Sheet in your packet to use. We would like the students to print their name, write their student number and write the Fulton County Barcode number from their Surface. This is just an extra check for us to make sure everything was scanned correctly.
Video There is a YouTube link to the Cambridge expectation video. This vintage video is available at the end of the PowerPoint if you have extra time. It's the same one we've used every year.
Pick-up About half way through advisement our volunteers will be coming back around to each of the advisement rooms to pick up the paperwork, boxes and any devices that were not distributed.
